About the Athenaeum TheatreThe Athenaeum Theatre is Chicago’s oldest continuously operating Off-Loop theatre. It was founded by St. Alphonsus Church, and conceived as a neighborhood playhouse where the church’s German-American parishioners could enjoy performances of beloved operas and symphonic works.
The Athenaeum Theatre features a spacious main lobby (pictured) with multiple restrooms, elevator access, full box office services, and the Curtain Call Club bar for concert-goers.
The favorable acoustics of the 984-seat Main Stage theater are augmented by a recently-upgraded, whisper-quiet HVAC system.
A full theatrical lighting system ensures excellent visibility on and off the stage, while amenitities for performers - like a suite of dressing rooms, green room, and showers - are top-notch.
