Advancing Excellence: Making MovesReturn to lakevieworchestra.org
Our VisionThis is an exciting time for the Lakeview Orchestra! Every year since its founding the orchestra has advanced musically and has grown its reputation in the community. Now in its fifth season, the Lakeview Orchestra has arrived at a critical moment to consider the next five years (and beyond) — continuing to pursue its vision to become Chicago’s preeminent volunteer orchestra!
Our First Five YearsThe Lakeview Orchestra was born in 2013, only a handful of years ago. Though still in its developing stages, the Lakeview Orchestra is now recognized as a leading volunteer orchestra in Chicago. Under the baton of Artistic Director Gregory Hughes, the orchestra presents acclaimed performances that engage, entertain, and educate. The orchestra is home to well-trained, non-professional musicians that revel at opportunities to perform a diverse variety of music — from established masterworks to pieces written expressly for the ensemble. And the orchestra provides a tremendous service to its community. The audience of Lakeview community members enrich their lives by experiencing highly-praised performances and growing its appreciation for the art form.
Since its first season, the orchestra has pursued its vision for excellence. The ensemble is now poised to reach closer to that goal than it has ever before.
Community ResponseThe community’s appetite for the Lakeview Orchestra is rapidly increasing. Each year since its inception, the orchestra’s concert audience has grown by more than 20 percent. This trend has accelerated in the past year. Because of this rapid growth, the audience has come closer and closer to overflowing out of the Nettelhorst School Auditorium. The orchestra is on pace to outsize the venue within the next two seasons. This great progress can be attributed to passionate word of mouth buzz (with only minimal advertising investment by the organization).
