About Erin
Erin Mays is new to the Lakeview Orchestra for the 2021-2022 season, joining after a (regretfully extended) break from playing. At the University of Michigan, Erin played principal trumpet in the Michigan Pops Orchestra, as well as the Campus Symphony Orchestra, where her accomplishments included earning an honorable mention in the program's concerto competition. While at Michigan, she played for doctoral conducting students who later went on to score much more impressive gigs, including Maestras Tania Miller (Vancouver, Victoria), Mei-Ann Chen (Chicago Sinfonietta), and Laura Jackson (Atlanta, Reno). Previously, Erin was principal trumpet of the Schaumburg Youth Symphony Orchestra under Joseph Malmquist. When not playing with the Lakeview Orchestra or toiling away at her day job, Erin subs with the Lake Geneva Symphony Orchestra, plays bass guitar in the not-famous cover band Ask Again Later, and attempts to sing in Coriolis, a classical a capella ensemble led by Eric Skalinder.
