The Athenaeum Center for Thought & Culture has been Lakeview Orchestra’s home since 2018. Founded in 1911, the Athenaeum Center is Chicago’s oldest, continually operating off-Loop theater. The acoustics of the Main Stage at the Athenaeum Center are ideal for Lakeview Orchestra’s performances, and the theater offers enhanced amenities for our patrons — ample and affordable parking, comfortable seats, and a lobby bar.
Parking
There are two free parking lots adjacent to the Athenaeum Theatre.
Metered street parking is available on Southport Ave and Lincoln Ave, and there is free, unrestricted street parking west of Southport Ave.
Arriving at the theatre early is your best bet to get a good parking spot!
Directions
The Athenaeum Theatre is located at 2936 N Southport Ave, Chicago, Illinois 60657.
PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION
The nearest CTA "L" station is the Brown Line at Wellington Ave. After exiting the station, walk 4 blocks West to Southport Ave, then turn left (South). The Athenaeum Theatre will be on your right, just South of St. Alphonsus' Church.
DRIVING from LAKE SHORE DRIVE
Travel along Lake Shore Drive to Belmont Ave. Exit at Belmont Ave and travel 1 mile west to Southport, then turn left.
DRIVING from the North/Northwest on 90/94 EAST
Take I-90/94 EAST to California Ave. Exit the expressway at California Ave, turn right onto California, then left (East) onto Diversey Pkwy. Travel 14 blocks East on Diversey, then turn left onto Southport Ave and travel 2 blocks. The Athenaeum Theatre will be on your left at 2936 N Southport Ave.
DRIVING from the South on 90/94 WEST
Take I-90/94 WEST to Armitage Ave. As you exit the expressway, turn right on Armitage Ave, and travel approximately 1/4 block to Ashland Ave. Turn left onto Ashland Ave and travel 10 blocks North to Wellington Ave. Turn Right on Wellington Ave and go 2 blocks East to Southport. Turn right on Southport and you'll find the theatre on your right, just South of St. Alphonsus' Church.
PHONE ZONE
You are welcome to use your mobile device on silent during Lakeview Orchestra performances while seated in the Phone Zone.
The Phone Zone is located in the upper balcony and rear main floor (under the overhang) so as not to disturb other patrons with excess light from your device.
